I shed my tears in darkness,
The sable companion espoused my wounds,
Bequeathed with a friend who made no promise
Of a time when agony will let loose.
The silent camaraderie with the ebony
Had a lesson in it for me.
Across the turbulent fields I had trodden,
The momentary quietude offered a plain o’cotton.
My sore feet splattered the whiteness with a dotted signature,
The cotton softness and raven calm was for my thirst a full pitcher.
There forth began my novice romance
With a new chapter of sanguine stance.
